(cont. from home page) The other members include Mike Phillippe of Hastings on bass, John Garman of Hastings at the drums, Jared Bader from Lincoln, Pat Cozad of St. Paul playing the guitar and Sherone Sader of Nelson playing the keyboard and doing vocals.
The band is a newborn as far as the music world is concerned, only being together since March, 2006.
Phillippe and Garman heard Ives singing at the Country Music Foundation competition and asked if she'd like to sing with a band. Sader, Cozad and Bader signed on, and Slingshot was born.
The members of Slingshot have done about five shows, including the Comstock Windmill Festival and have about five more shows booked through August.
"Our most exciting show so far has definitely been Comstock," Ives said.
The band plays mostly country cover songs, with a little bit of classic country thrown in to the mix by guitarist Pat Cozad. Currently, Slingshot is working on some original songs for its upcoming shows. "We have about nine original songs right now, not quite enough for a CD," Sader said. Slingshot has had local offers to record an album but hasn't done so yet. All of this is a brand new experience for Ives, who is the youngest and most inexperienced of the band. "I used to only sing with karaoke tapes, so it was hard singing with a live band, but now I wouldn't trade it for the world," Ives said. Slingshot has a website at www.slingshot1.net, which has more information and concert schedules. Clay County News |
